TIME: 9:30 am – 5:00 pm
WORKSHOP FEE: $205 (These workshops do not include lunches)

Remember the carefree spirit you had as a child? It’s time to recapture that sense of wonder and excitement in your art! Come play with Kimberly Santiago, Author of Collage Playground!, as she introduces you to simple techniques and projects that take the “work” out of collage and bring back in the fun.

Daily Conversations with Mixed Media
Artistic expression is the perfect way to develop everyday ideas and creativity. A recurrent image, word or phrase can represent an object or conversation that tends to unify your life or “who” you are in life. In this workshop we will explore various collage techniques, learn how creative prompts help develop concepts and complete a mixed media project.

Along the way, we will explore fun and inspiring creative exercises that help to relax, calm and develop your skills and ideas. Take this workshop alone or combine it with the Saturday/Sunday, two day workshop. Each of these workshop will have a variety of techniques and ideas to help to enhance your skills and confidence as a mixed media artist. No artistic skills needed for either workshops, if you enjoy the wonders of collage and mixed media but are overwhelmed by the techniques, these are the workshops for you.

Format
Curiosity Box - Using the techniques you learned in this workshop you will create a “curiosity box” from a vintage drawer, box or 12 x 12 cradled hardwood panel. This box will be representational of the ideas developed and learned throughout the concept of Daily Conversations.

Kimberly Santiago began her career as a graphic designer and later became the Department Chair of Graphic Design and Fine Art at O’More College of Design. While she continues to teach at art workshops, her art now focuses on mixed media collage, where she combines vintage art with pop style. Her first book Collage Playground (Northlight Books F + W Media) was published in 2010, also  a contributor to Mixed Media Paint Box (Tonia Davenport) January 2011 and Crafty Bird (Kristi Conlin) January 2013. She has been published in Somerset Gallery (Winter 2011, Summer 2012) and Cloth, Paper, Scissors (Spring 2010) magazines.  Kimberly operated Creative Corner Art Shop in the Summer of 2011 thru the Winter of 2013 in the historic district of Clarksville, TN. This brick and mortar art shop catered to mixed media artists, offering vintage items, ephemera and art supplies. She is currently working on her second book Mixed Media Materials (working title), to be released in Fall of 2014.  You can read more by visiting: http://www.kimberlysantiagonow.com

Life Patterns with Mixed Media

Using the idea of a map as a point of departure, chart your daily habits and patterns. Consider incorporating elements associated with maps, such as a legend, compass or visual topography. Or consider a totally non-representational style of art and create a non-traditional type of map. The door is wide open for you to explore with new techniques learned within this two day workshop.
Along the way, we will explore fun and inspiring creative exercises that help to relax, calm and develop your skills and ideas. Take this workshop alone or combine it with the Friday workshop. Each of these workshop will have a variety of techniques and ideas to help to enhance your skills and confidence as a mixed media artist. No artistic skills needed for either workshops, if you enjoy the wonders of collage and mixed media but are overwhelmed by the techniques, these are the workshops for you.

Format
Life Patterns will be composed of individual wood panels combined to create a grid or mixed media quilt.
